Description

French style mahogany cased balloon clock by J.W.Benson of London. Decorative casework with stringing inlay and shell motive with brass bun feet. Front opening door with brass bezel and chamfered convex glass over the signed brass dial with black Roman hours and ornate hands and the two winding squares. Rear pierced circular brass door giving access to the spring driven, pendulum regulated rack striking brass 8 day movement.

Dimensions: Height - 12", Width - 7", Depth - 5.5".

J.W.Benson was founded in 1847 in London by brothers James William and Samuel Suckley Benson, this partnership was dissolved in 1855. The factory was bombed in WWII and they ceased manufacturing. Mappin and Webb bought them out in 1980.
