American oak cased 8 day mantel clock by the Ansonia Clock Co. circa 1900. Architectural heavily carved wooden case with turned finial and bracket feet. Circular gilt brass bezel with flat chamfered glass over matt gilt dial with slow / fast regulation at 12 o'clock with black Arabic hours and ornate black steel hands. Skeleton square brass gong striking spring driven, pendulum regulated, movement stamped with 'Ansonia Clock Co, New York, USA' and 'Patented June 18,1882'.

Dimensions: Height - 17", width - 11", depth - 5".

The Ansonia Clock Company, formed in 1851 and operated as a high-quality company until the 1920s. A series of bad decisions and the Depression forced the sale of the company to Soviet Russia in 1928. The company was originally housed in Darby, Connecticut until 1854 when the factory burned. The company moved production to Ansonia.
