American Ansonia Clock Company 'Sharon' 8 day mahogany veneer pine cased gong strike mantel clock circa 1890. Decorative architectural case with carved and applied moulding and ornate gilt bezel with flat, chamfered glass over an ivory coloured dial with black roman hours and blued steel hands with a slow / fast adjuster at 12 o/c. Good quality brass, spring powered, pendulum driven movement stamped for the Ansonia Clock Co. and displaying a patent date of June 18, 1882.

Dimensions: Height - 17", width - 13.5", depth - 6.5".

The Ansonia Clock Company, formed in 1851 and operated as a high-quality company until the 1920s. A series of bad decisions and the Depression forced the sale of the company to Soviet Russia in 1928. The company was originally housed in Darby, Connecticut until 1854 when the factory burned. The company moved production to Ansonia.
