Vertex open face pocket watch in a 9ct gold case. Case marked for Birmingham c1931 with makers mark for Eclipse watch company. Inner back cover engraved 'For long service presented to JHames P McDonald by Oyston & Tennant Ltd.'
Top wind and time change. Signed white enamel dial with black Arabic hours and gilt hands with a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o/c. Signed 15 jewelled lever movement with overcoil hairspring and split bi-metallic balance.

Vertex was founded in 1916 by horological visionary, Claude Lyons. Born in London in 1885, he started working in the watch trade at the tender age of 17. Renowned for his brightness and ingenuity, he swiftly garnered an excellent reputation within the watchmaking industry. He set up Dreadnought Watches in 1906 by securing a £1000 loan from his father-in-law, and he paid it back in full within a year.
